About Red Leaf Wallet

Red Leaf Wallet exists for one person: the international student sitting at home, staring at a $22,895 GIC requirement, five bank websites, and a hundred contradicting forum answers — with their family’s savings on the line.

We compare the financial products that matter in your first years in Canada — GIC programs, student bank accounts, no-credit-history credit cards, and money transfers — using primary sources only: bank tariff sheets, official program terms, and IRCC requirements. Not forum rumours. Not recycled blog posts.

I’ve spent over a decade as a study-visa consultant, personally guiding students through visa files, proof-of-funds requirements, and first-week landings — one student at a time. Before and alongside that, I worked 3+ years in banking operations and sales, handling credit cards and home loans from the inside. I’ve seen both sides of the counter: how banks build these products, and how confused students feel choosing them.

Every fee, payout schedule, and eligibility rule on this site is checked against the bank’s live documents before publication, and re-audited periodically. When something changes — and in this industry, it always does — we update the page and stamp the new audit date on it.

Our editorial rules

  1. Facts come from primary sources.

Bank fee schedules, program agreements, and IRCC pages — never third-party summaries.

  2. Money never changes rankings.

We may earn a commission when you use some links (see our Affiliate Disclosure), but partners cannot buy a better review, a higher rank, or a hidden fee’s silence.

  3. Every page shows its audit date.

If we haven’t verified it recently, we say so.

  4. We write what we’d tell our own students.

If a product isn’t right for you, the page will say that too.

  5. Mistakes get fixed fast.
